We’re absolutely thrilled to announce that WASZP UK has been granted RYA Endorsed Class status—a fantastic achievement that cements the WASZP firmly as one of theUK’s leading foiling dinghies for sailors of all ages and abilities.
What This Endorsement Means
This endorsement places the WASZP alongside traditional youth pathway boats, opening new opportunities for sailing clubs to build a WASZP class for all sailors to access coaching, structured support, and the thrill of foiling.
It also closely aligns with the RYA’s “Racing for Life” initiative—a core strategic aim focused on creating engaging, accessible, and affordable pathways that keep young people involved in competitive sailing for the long term. The broader RYA philosophy champions sailing as a sport for life, open to every age and ability.
Importantly, while this development strengthens opportunities for younger sailors to join the class, our adult sailors will continue to enjoy our long-standing and much loved WASZP ethos. Our Core, Master and SuperMaster sailors continue to be celebrated as a driving force within the UK fleet, bringing depth, experience and exceptional pace to every event.
A Class Built on Diversity
One of the defining strengths of the WASZP class is the incredible mix of sailors in the fleet and on the start line. Youth sailors share the racecourse with Master and SuperMaster competitors, who are often the fastest boats on the water. There’s something genuinely exciting about a class where in one race you might see a SuperMaster leading the flying charge around the course, in the next a teenager pushing them all the way, and in another Green Fleet sailors developing skills in a race environment.
The competitive spirit is real, but so is the camaraderie. After racing, the boat park becomes a vibrant hub, with sailors of all ages swapping tips, compare techniques or setups and helping each other go faster.
